Public Meeting May 29, 2007

The Fort Monroe Federal Area Development Authority, which will have the responsibility to work with the Department of Defense in overseeing the reuse planning for Fort Monroe, was created during the FY08 General Assembly Session.

The group includes:

  • Secretary of Natural Resources L. Preston Bryant, Jr., who also serves as the Authority Chair
  • Secretary of Commerce and Trade Patrick O. Gottschalk
  • Secretary of Administration Viola O. Baskerville
  • Secretary of Finance Jody M. Wagner
  • Assistant to the Governor for Commonwealth Preparedness Robert P. Crouch
• Four state legislators
  • Senator Mamie E. Locke (D-Senate District 2)
  • Senator Marty Williams (R-Senate District 1)
  • Delegate Tom Gear (R-House District 91)
  • Delegate Phil Hamilton (R-House District 93)
• Seven Hampton citizens appointed by Hampton City Council
  • Dr. Alvin Bryant
  • Thomas Thompson
  • Robert R. Harper
  • Kanata Jackson
  • Dr. Wayne Lett
  • Robert Scott
  • John Quarstein
• Two citizens with experience in Historic Preservation and Tourism
  • Catherine M. Gilliam, Virginian Program Manager for the National Parks Conservation Association
  • Dr. Rex M. Ellis, Vice President for the Historic Area at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation
